Book DescriptionThe author, a veteran Chicago Tribune reporter, tells his life story from beginnings in Indiana, work for the Chicago City News Bureau, then early reporting for the Tribune followed by nearly five years of Army service in World War II. Resuming his career after the war, he completed 33 years with the Tribune. This was followed by work as Public Affairs manager for the Chicago Transit Authority, press secretary for former Chicago Mayor Jane Burn and finally 12 years teaching journalism at Loyola University, Chicago. Tom Buck writes about the people he covered, from presidents to restaurant waitresses, from crime figures to University of Illinois trustees, from a speaker who died on the platform to a sailor who figured out how to beat City Hall.
