This is a list of battles in early Irish history, as mentioned in the Annals of the Four Masters. The Annals were written in the early 17th century and some of the battles listed here may have been mythological. The early history of Ireland spans the 5th to 8th centuries, from the gradual emergence out of the protohistoric period (Ogham inscriptions in Primitive Irish, mentions in Greco-Roman ethnography) to the beginning of the Viking Age. The period notably includes the Hiberno-Scottish mission of Christianized Ireland to pagan Great Britain and Europe. Recorded Irish history begins with the introduction of Christianity and Latin literacy, beginning in the 5th century or slightly before. When compared to neighbouring Insular societies, early Christian Ireland is extremely well documented, but these sources are not easy to interpret.
